Excavation

Excavation has followed up the detailed survey of several significant locations in the research area

One of the first sites to be investigated was this small circular enclosure, set on a level area in the bottom of the glacial meltwater gully that runs down the hillside. The structure comprises a stone bank with a partial internal kerb surrounding a large earthfast boulder.

Finds include evidence of recent burning (within the laCHWexc3_WSst 200 years) near the surface, but below this coarse hand-made pottery and human bone were recovered. The bones represent a remarkable range of ages from adult to neo-natal and foetal bones.
