Topographical survey

Near the village we recorded building platforms and field boundaries, one of which was unusually large which prompted further investigation by geophysical survey and excavation. The earthworks may have been created by many centuries of activity, but the earliest elements appear to represent a Late Prehistoric farm.

In the northern part of Grassington township we surveyed some building platforms that appear to be associated with parallel fields. While the earthworks near Grassington may show activity continuing up to recent times, these remote locations are more likely to have remained unchanged since the time that they were abandoned.

The survey areas are all on private land, and we are very grateful to the landowners for permission to access them.
